Basileus, Sekou Owens Sr.

I would like to start by giving all of the glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, for without his grace and mercy nothing is possible. My name is Se'kou Owens, Sr. and I am the Omega Year 2023 Basileus of the Omicron Kappa Kappa (OKK) Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. The OKK Chapter was chartered on December 14th, 1996, by 11 Charter Members with 6 more to follow in February of 1997. The focus was to establish the fraternity's commitment to "Service" in the Reston/Herndon area of Fairfax County, Virginia. I am truly honored and humbled to say that we as a chapter have been recognized fraternally and within our respective communities for our tireless dedication for 26 years. Most recently, in 2017 and 2019, OKK was voted "The Best of Reston" in community service and "Small Chapter of the Year" respectively.

I have accepted this leadership role with the sole purpose of continuing the vision and purpose as the previous Basileus before me. As Baslieus, I intend to take the OKK Chapter in a path focused on uplift and impacting the community with determined focus on the less fortunate. OKK follows the phrase to "Live Your Creed," that includes the intentions to "Commitment to Humanity" and "Impacting the lives of people in a positive way." As men of Omega Psi Phi, it is our responsibility to lead by example and with a purpose of change. My Father always said, "Everytime you open your eyes, you are either a help or a hindrance". I truly try to live with that thought. It is important that we as men of Omega, and the Brothers of the Omicron Kappa Kappa Chapter allow our thoughts and efforts to be led by God's hand.

As we move forward each day that we are blessed to have, I will allow God to order my steps. As men of Omega Psi Phi, our neighboring chapters, other members of the divine nine, as well as the faith-based communities, we must promote togetherness and service that will impact change in the lives in a positive way of all that needs us.
